How to Register a Will Online in Karnataka via Kaveri Online Services

Registering a Will ensures that the testator’s assets are distributed according to their wishes after their demise. In Karnataka, this process can be initiated online through the official Kaveri Online Services portal.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
  • Will Draft (prepared and signed by the testator)
  • Testator’s ID Proof (Aadhaar, PAN, or Passport)

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO ONLINE WILL REGISTRATION
  1. Access the Kaveri Online Services Portal
Visit the official portal: https://kaveri.karnataka.gov.in/landing-page Log in using your username and password: If you do not have an account, create one instantly and log in. See the login page in the image below, the arrow marks highlight the relevant section

  1. Start a New Application
Select Start a New Application (see highlighted section in the image below) Start a New Application Select DOCUMENT REGISTRATION, see the image below for reference Document Registration Select Continue under ‘Prerequisite for Document Registration’  refer to the image below for guidance Continue on Prerequisite for document Registration
  1. Article and Sub-Article
In the Article and Sub-Article fields, select the following options from the dropdown lists (see image below):
  • Nature of Document: Will
  • Article: Will
  • Sub-Article: Will
Article and Sub Article Click Continue
  1. Type of Document
In the Type of Document field, select Will as shown in the image below. Type of Document
  1. Enter Testator Details
Provide:
  • Full Name
  • Contact Number
  • Relative’s Name
  • Age & Gender
  • ID Proof Type & Number
  • Full Address
Testator Details 1 Click Save Executant – 1, then click Move to PRESENTER as shown in the image below Move to PRESENTER
  1. Presenter
  • The Presenter is the person submitting the document at the Sub-Registrar Office.
  • In most cases, the presenter is the testator themselves.
  • From the drop-down list, select the testator’s name, then click Make Presenter. Refer to below image

  1. Enter Witness (Identifier) Details
For each witness (Identifier-1 and Identifier-2), enter:
  • Name
  • Age & Gender
  • Relative’s Name
  • Full Address

  1. Skip Market Value Calculation
Will registration does not require market value calculation. Click Continue. Refer to below image Market value calculation
  1. Enter Document Details
Number of Pages: Enter as per your Will draft (e.g., My Will draft consists of 6 pages. Enter 6 in the Number of Pages field and click Calculate, as shown in the image below) Number of pages
Government Fees for Will Registration in Karnataka:
  • Stamp Duty: Rs.0 (Not applicable for Wills)
  • Registration Fee: Rs.200 (the image below shows Rs.400 by mistake)
  • Scanning Fee: Rs.50 per page

  1. Review
  • Before submitting the application for Sub-Registrar Office approval, review all entered details for accuracy.
  • The summary report is typically 3–4 pages long, the image below shows the first page for your reference.

  1. Upload Documents
Upload the following documents
  • Upload Deed Document: Upload the Will in PDF format
  • Date of Execution: Select the date of Will execution (signing date)
  • Upload Annexures: Upload the testator’s ID proof (preferably Aadhaar or PAN)
  • Select Sub-Registrar Office: Choose the nearest and most convenient Sub-Registrar Office. A Will can be registered at any SRO in Karnataka

  1. Declaration:
In the Declaration section, accept the terms and conditions, then click Agree and Submit, as shown in the image below Terms Conditions
  1. Approval and Slot Booking
  • Most applications are approved within a few hours (in my case, approval came within 30 minutes).
  • Pay the government fee online (UPI accepted).
  • Book your appointment slot for in-person registration.

  1. In-Person Registration
  • Print the Will draft on document paper
  • Visit the Sub-Registrar Office with the witnesses and Summary report
  • Registration is usually completed within 30 minutes.
